The two-year Locis programme concludes at the end of November with a seminar on Saturday 29th preceded the Friday evening before with a tour of the exhibition LOCAL by the five artists participating in the 2014 residency in Ireland and a talk about the historical context which underpins the work.

Chaired by critic and lecturer Declan Long the seminar on Saturday features – Natalia Cieślak; Dobrila Denegri ; Sarah Kim; Joanne Laws; Audrey Keane; Sam Moore; Sasa Nabergoj; Seamus Nolan; Joanna Sandell; Anik See; Dominic Stevens; Johan Thurfjell; and Aleksandra Wasilkowska.

Fees: individuals – €20, members of organisations – €40.
Fee includes all talks, exhibitions, dinner on Friday evening and lunch on Saturday.

17.00Introduction to LOCALThe five artists who are taking part in this year’s Locis residency in Ireland – Johan Thurfjell, Julia Adzuki, Linda Shevlin, Brigitta Varadi and Karolina Żyniewicz introduce the background to their work and the resultant exhibition LOCAL.
17.50Landscape and mythologySam Moore is an archaeologist based in Dromahair, Co. Leitrim. He has written or contributed to a considerable number of local history articles, books and guides. Sam has been lecturing in archaeology at the Institute of Technology, Sligo since 2007. His main interest lies in the landscape and human interaction with it and the biography or ‘life-history’ of monuments including how mythology and folklore plays a role in the mental landscape. His talk looks at the mythology and landscape of Leitrim and the Northwest that underpins much of the work and research which the five artists undertook that gave rise to the exhibition LOCAL.

10.00WelcomePhilip Delamere, Arts Officer with Leitrim County Council introduces the Chairperson for the seminar Declan Long. Declan Long is a lecturer in modern and contemporary art at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin where he is Co-Director (with Francis Halsall) of the MA Art in the Contemporary World. He frequently appears on ‘Arena’ on RTE Radio 1, discussing and reviewing contemporary art. His criticism is regularly published in Artforum and Source Photographic Review. In 2013 Long was a member of the judging panel for the Turner Prize. He is also a board member of the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin.
10.10Audrey Keane – Creative EuropeAudrey Keane, European Cultural Contact Point (Ireland) gives an overview of the new Culture Programme of the European Union, Creative Europe.
10.50Anik SeeAnik See is a Canadian freelance writer, radio producer and translator living in The Netherlands. She is the author of three books, has contributed to many magazines, and produced for radio worldwide. From a remote residency in Canada Anik was asked to look at the chaos and beauty of language and cultural difference in contexts like LOCIS for the forthcoming LOCIS publication.
11.30Saša NabergojSaša Nabergoj is an art historian, curator and critic. She works as the Assistant Director at SCCA-Ljubljana, Center for Contemporary Arts (Slovenia) where she is the head of World of Art, School for Curators and Critics of Contemporary Art and Studio 6. For Locis Nabergoj is reflecting on her research into different forms and dynamics in artist residencies and on her On-Air artists’ resource website.
12.10Locis lead artistsDominic Stevens (IE), Seamus Nolan (IE), Johan Thurfjell (SE), and Aleksandra Wasilkowska (PO) were lead artists for LOCIS residencies. Declan Long talks to the four artists about the experience of LOCIS, and the impacts that leading projects like this has on their practice and thinking.

14.00Joanne Laws, Natalia Cieślak, Sarah Kim.Declan Long talks to Laws, Cieślak and Kim who were each invited to write responses to the two Locis residencies that occurred in Ireland, Poland and Sweden respectively, and to consider how residencies can reflect their contexts and/or provide developmental opportunities for artists in a particular location.
14.40In conversation 1For the In Conversation breakout sessions, delegates have the opportunity to discuss topics of interest with speakers in smaller groups enabling each delegate to engage in genuine debate on issues of interest/concern to them. Delegates can take part in three of a five short sessions as follows –
